Huang Yuan is a kind of turtle that is very easy to domesticate and raise. They are not afraid of strangers and have strong vitality. Omnivorous, female turtles generally weigh about 450 grams when sexually mature. Among turtles of the same age, females are often larger than males. Individual females can weigh more than 1,000 grams, while individual males rarely weigh more than 500 grams. The growth period is from May to September, and 3 to 7 oval-shaped eggs can often be laid. To grow successfully, they need to be raised outdoors in pairs.

The male turtle has a long and slightly flat carapace, and a thicker and longer tail; the female turtle has a thicker carapace and a shorter tail.
